THE STATE AND TRENDS OF THE DOMESTIC LABOR MARKET IN THE CONDITIONS OF MILITARY ACTIONS
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the analysis of the state and main trends in the development of the domestic labor market in the context of military actions. It examines key issues arising from the armed conflict, such as rising unemployment, labor migration, internal displacement of the population, changes in the structure of labor demand, and the adaptation of enterprises to new conditions. Special attention is given to the impact of war on individual economic sectors, the development of remote work and digitalization, as well as government initiatives aimed at supporting workers and employers. The ongoing military actions in Ukraine have significantly impacted the national labor market, leading to profound structural changes and new trends. The war has resulted in a substantial loss of jobs, disruptions in production, and significant internal displacement, which has affected both employers and employees. Many businesses have either halted their operations or scaled back significantly due to the damage to infrastructure and unsafe working conditions in conflict zones. As a result, unemployment rates have risen sharply, particularly in the eastern and southern regions of the country. Many businesses have relocated their operations to safer regions in the west of Ukraine, where there is relative stability. This shift has created new opportunities in some sectors while exacerbating unemployment in areas affected by military actions. Certain sectors, such as defense, logistics, IT, and construction, have seen an increase in demand for labor. At the same time, sectors heavily reliant on physical infrastructure and supply chains, such as manufacturing and retail, have experienced a downturn. The war has accelerated the transition to remote work and the digitalization of business processes. Many companies, especially in the IT sector, continue to operate remotely, employing workers from across the country and abroad. The Ukrainian government has implemented several initiatives to support workers and businesses, including temporary relocation programs, financial aid packages, and employment incentives for displaced persons and veterans.
