ANALYSIS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINIAN CONFECTIONERY INDUSTRIES IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR

Abstract

The article investigates the state and development prospects of the confectionery industry in Ukraine, an important sector of the national economy. Despite numerous challenges, including economic instability, changing consumer preferences, increasing competition, and the influence of global trends such as healthy eating and sustainability, the industry demonstrates steady growth. The most significant challenge has been the full-scale war in Ukraine, which has impacted nearly 20% of enterprises. The article analyzes data on the number of active enterprises, their size, profitability, and production volumes over the past three years. It highlights that businesses are actively adapting to new conditions by relocating production facilities and implementing innovative technologies. The analysis covers the leading market players, such as Roshen, Mondeliz, AVK, Svitoh, and others. The objective of the article is to assess the current state of the industry and identify key trends and development prospects. The article details the impact of the war, noting significant declines in the number of enterprises producing various confectionery products, particularly in 2022. The market structure is also discussed, indicating that small enterprises, including micro-enterprises, dominate the industry. Despite the challenges, the industry shows resilience and an ongoing commitment to modernization and innovation, which are critical for future growth and development. The article provides a comprehensive overview of the industry's performance, emphasizing the necessity for continued adaptation and strategic development in response to both domestic and global market conditions. Among the prospects for further development of the industry, the restoration of production capacities and human resources is noted. Important aspects include improving logistics chains, developing export potential, and attracting investments, which will enhance the competitiveness of the Ukrainian confectionery industry on the global stage. In addition, the article examines the efforts of the Ukrainian government and industry associations in supporting the confectionery sector through policy measures, grants, and subsidies. These initiatives aim to mitigate the adverse effects of the war and economic instability, providing a more stable environment for businesses to thrive. Furthermore, the article discusses the growing importance of sustainability and environmental practices within the industry. Companies are increasingly adopting eco-friendly packaging, reducing waste, and sourcing ingredients sustainably to meet the rising consumer demand for environmentally responsible products. Lastly, the article highlights the role of technological advancements in driving innovation within the industry. The adoption of automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics is helping businesses optimize production processes, improve product quality, and enhance supply chain efficiency. This comprehensive analysis underscores the resilience of Ukraine's confectionery industry and its ability to adapt to challenging circumstances while continuously striving for growth and development. The industry's commitment to modernization, innovation, and sustainability positions it well for future success, both domestically and internationally.
