MANAGEMENT OF INNOVATIVE RISKS IN ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES DURING WARTIME
Abstract
The article examines the challenges of managing innovation risks in entrepreneurial activities during wartime, specifically under the conditions of Russian aggression in Ukraine. It highlights the significant obstacles faced by Ukrainian enterprises, including political instability, disrupted supply chains, changing consumer demand, and physical threats. The primary risks identified include occupation risk, material loss risk, loss of key personnel, reputational risks, financial risks, logistical risks, tax risks, and regulatory risks. The article emphasizes that effective innovation risk management is essential for mitigating potential losses and ensuring business sustainability. A systematic approach to risk management is proposed, consisting of key steps: identifying risks through brainstorming, historical analysis, and risk assessments; evaluating risks based on their likelihood and potential impact; planning mitigation strategies to reduce risks or transfer responsibility for them; and continuously monitoring and reviewing risk management processes to adapt to evolving threats. The role of proper risk analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, is underlined as critical to the success of the entire risk management process. The article explores practical methods for reducing innovation risks, such as diversification of innovation activities to allocate resources across unrelated projects, avoiding high-risk activities, transferring risks through mechanisms like insurance, minimizing risks with preventive measures, and accepting risks while preparing to manage potential losses. Protective measures like risk sharing among project participants, reserving funds for unforeseen costs, and insurance are also discussed. Furthermore, the article underscores the importance of adapting innovation risk management strategies to wartime realities, as the economic environment is highly volatile. It discusses the need for resilience and flexibility in business models to withstand external shocks. Effective risk management is presented as a competitive advantage and a tool for fostering growth, provided that a robust risk management system is implemented. This system enables enterprises to navigate uncertainties, protect their assets, and maintain innovation efforts despite ongoing crises.
