Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the main changes and structural changes in the consumer sector of the Ukrainian economy in the conditions of development of the circular economy. In the consumer sector, 45.31% of the country's GDP is formed, so it is significant. The transition from the traditional model of economy, whose motto is "to produce, produce, consume and throw out" to a circular economy based on the 3R principle: reduce, reuse, recycle, in Ukraine is slow. The issue of rational consumption and resource efficiency is increasingly attracting the attention of both scientists and businessmen. Ukraine's households were selected to study the pace of change in the consumer sector. The most significant item of household expenditures in Ukraine is food, whose share in 2018 amounted to 47.7% of total household expenditures. Significant growth of some durable goods in Ukrainian households was noted. The second largest item in the structure of expenditures is the item “non-food products and services”, which in 2018 amounted to 40.9% of the total household consumption expenditure. A comparative analysis of the structure of consumer spending of households in Ukraine and the Czech Republic is conducted. The dynamics of waste generation and management in the territory of Ukraine for the period 2010-2017 is analyzed. It is concluded that the households of Ukraine are not the most polluting factor of the environment. The share of household waste is very small, accounting for only 1.6% of total waste generated in 2017. With the development of a circular economy, a different approach to waste management in households in Ukraine needs to be implemented. It is advisable to introduce a separate collection of garbage more widely, which will make it possible to recycle waste. A comparative analysis of the cost structure of households in Ukraine and European countries provides an opportunity to adjust consumption volumes and forecast waste generation. The forecast of household waste generation will enable the development of modern environmentally friendly means of their disposal.
