STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF THE SUSTAINABILITY OF AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES IN THE CONTEXT OF ENSURING THEIR COMPETITIVENESS

Preserving Ukraine's economic and social potential is crucial amidst the modern challenges the country faces. Consequently, it is essential to ensure the sustainability of enterprises – particularly in the agricultural sector, given their role in upholding national food security. In light of this, the article examines the concept of “sustainability” and its various types, taking into account contemporary transformational changes. Sustainability is defined here as an enterprise's capacity to withstand external and internal pressures while maintaining its core characteristics. Beyond established forms of sustainability, the study advocates for considering “energy sustainability” – the ability of agricultural enterprises to withstand adverse energy-related factors, such as power outages, shelling, and damage or destruction of critical infrastructure. It is noted that strategic management of financial, economic, energy, and other types of sustainability will enable agricultural enterprises to remain competitive despite current wartime challenges. This approach ensures the continuity of operations and business processes, as well as the ability to supply products to consumers and counterparties, thereby allowing enterprises to meet their obligations and maintain their market position. Potential strategic management approaches depend on the specific factors directly affecting enterprise operations. By synthesizing these factors with the conditions of martial law in Ukraine, and drawing on existing research, the following measures are proposed: building financial reserves to ensure the ability to meet obligations; establishing an effective, flexible management system,including one that is personnel-oriented and incorporates risk management; digitizing enterprise operations; actively implementing corporate social responsibility; and establishing an energy security system alongside an environmentally conscious approach to all enterprise activities. These areas align with modern requirements and will enable the creation of a robust and sustainable system for managing the resilience of agricultural enterprises, thereby ensuring their competitiveness.
