THE EVOLUTION OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT

The rapid transformation of the global economy, the spread of digital technologies, increasing environmental challenges, and growing social expectations regarding responsible business have significantly changed the requirements for modern management. Under these conditions, sustainable development has become one of the key directions in the evolution of management science, requiring the integration of economic, social, environmental, and governance objectives into organizational management. This determines the relevance of studying the evolution of management science and the formation of the contemporary sustainable management paradigm. The article examines the evolution of management science from classical management concepts to sustainable management as a continuous process of developing and expanding management knowledge. Attention is focused on the transformation of management approaches under the influence of changes in the economic environment, organizational development, technological progress, and societal needs. The discussion covers the main stages in the development of management thought, the evolution of management objectives and functions, and the gradual expansion of the understanding of organizational effectiveness. Particular attention is given to the relationship between classical management concepts and modern approaches based on sustainable development principles. The article considers the changing role of management functions in contemporary organizations, the growing importance of stakeholder orientation, corporate social responsibility, ESG principles, and digital transformation. It also addresses the increasing significance of information technologies as an important factor influencing management processes and supporting sustainable organizational development. The paper emphasizes the importance of considering management science as an integrated and continuously developing system of knowledge that adapts to changing economic, social, technological, and environmental conditions. The issues discussed contribute to a better understanding of the conceptual foundations of sustainable management and the factors shaping the modern management paradigm in the context of global transformations.
