The article considers the theory of ambivalence, its philosophical, psychological and economic foundations. The paper highlights the main feature of this theory in the study of socio-economic processes: the existence of opposites in their functioning, their mutual transition and the impact on the state of economic security of the system. Criteria for assessing the degree of tension in the economic system are the ambivalence and severity of the contradictions or harmonies generated by it.
